Description - Solmucol 10% Inj Lös 300 mg/3ml local. i.v. i.m. 50amp 3ml

What is Solmucol 10% and when is it used?

Solmucol 10% contains acetylcysteine ??as an active ingredient, an expectorant that dissolves the firm, tough, difficult-to-cough mucus that is typical of respiratory diseases. This promotes sputum, encourages and quenches the cough. This makes breathing easier.Solmucol 10% is indicated for the treatment of respiratory diseases associated with hard and thick mucus, such as all forms of bronchitis, laryngitis and sinus infections. Solmucol 10% can also be used in the supportive treatment of a congenital disease called cystic fibrosis (or cystic fibrosis). Cystic fibrosis is a disease that is characterized by the increased formation of particularly thick mucus in the respiratory and digestive organs.Solmucol 10% should only be used on prescription from a doctor. Only the application by inhalation can be carried out by the patient himself.

What precautions should be taken?

The effect of Solmucol 10% is enhanced by drinking plenty of it. Since smoking contributes to an excessive accumulation of bronchial mucus, you can support the effect of Solmucol 10% by giving up smoking.

When should Somucol 10% not be used?

Solmucol 10% must not be used in the case of known hypersensitivity (allergy) to the active ingredient or to one of the auxiliary substances, in the case of gastrointestinal ulcers or if you are breastfeeding. In addition, Solmucol 10% must not be used together with cough suppressants. If the cough reflex is suppressed too much, the mucus that has been liquefied by Solmucol 10% cannot be coughed up, which can lead to a dangerous build-up of secretion with the risk of respiratory infections and bronchial spasms. Your doctor knows what to do in such cases.

When should you be careful when using Solmucol 10%?

If, after taking a drug containing acetylcysteine ??(active ingredient of Solmucol 10%), you have hypersensitivity reactions (allergies) of the bronchi in the form of spasms of the bronchial muscles (bronchospasm), with breathing difficulties or with allergic symptoms of a general nature (such as itching or rashes, Pulse acceleration and dizziness), you should inform your doctor before taking the preparation so that he can rule out the possibility of allergy susceptibility before prescribing. If allergic reactions occur during treatment with Solmucol 10%, you must stop using Solmucol 10% and consult a doctor immediately. If you have asthma and you are using Solmucol 10% for inhalation, your doctor may give or prescribe a bronchodilator (a medicine used to prevent the narrowing of the bronchi) at the same time. If, despite these precautionary measures, bronchospasm should occur, you should stop inhaling Solmucol 10% immediately and consult a doctor.Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you suffer from other illnesses, have allergies or are taking or applying other medicines (including those you have bought yourself!)!

Can Solmucol 10% be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding your child, you should avoid taking any medication as a precautionary measure. It is not yet known whether the active ingredient in Solmucol 10% can have undesirable effects on the unborn child or the infant. Therefore, you should only take this medicine during pregnancy if your doctor has specifically recommended it.Tell your doctor if you should become pregnant while taking Solmucol 10%.If you have to take Solmucol 10% while breastfeeding, you must not breastfeed your child as a precaution.

How do you use Solmucol 10%?

You may only use Solmucol 10% for inhalation.Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor:Adults: one ampoule, once or twice a day.Children of the age at which active participation is possible: ½ ampoule, once or twice a day. Before you use the medicine for the first time, your doctor will give you adequate information to ensure that the medicine is as effective as possible. It is recommended to use inhalers with glass or plastic parts. Devices with metal or rubber parts must be rinsed out with water immediately after use.

Intramuscular or intravenous injection, bronchial instillation, flushing of certain body cavities

Such applications may only be carried out by a doctor. If the excessive mucus formation associated with the disease does not subside after one week of treatment, the doctor should be consulted so that he or she can clarify the cause more precisely and, for example, rule out a complication of the respiratory tract.Solmucol 10% can chemically bind different substances if they are administered in the same inhalation solution. If you have to use other drugs, you should therefore not use them at the same time as Solmucol 10%, unless your doctor has specifically prescribed it for you (for example with certain bronchodilators, see ?When to use Solmucol 10% Be careful?").Do not change the prescribed dosage on your own. If you think that the medicine is acting too weakly or too strongly, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

What side effects can Solmucol 10% have?

The following side effects can occur when using Solmucol 10%: In particularly sensitive patients, such as asthmatics, inhalation can rarely cause breathing difficulties with tightness. Such unpleasant side effects can be avoided by using bronchodilators at the same time as prescribed by a doctor. Rarely, inhalation therapy causes inflammation of the oral mucosa, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, excessive nasal flow, or fever. In particularly sensitive patients, allergic reactions of the skin (rash, itching) and the respiratory organs (breathing difficulties, bronchospasm) can occur. In such cases you must stop inhaling immediately and contact your doctor. The feeling of stickiness on the face after using an inhalation mask disappears immediately after rinsing off with a little water. If you notice any side effects that are not described here, you should inform your doctor or pharmacist.

What should also be noted?

Solmucol 10% should be protected from light and heat (not above 25 ° C), stored in a dry place and out of the reach of children. The drug may only be used up to the date marked ?EXP? on the container. Ampoules that have already been opened should be used within 24 hours. The slight smell of sulfur that arises when the ampoule is opened dissipates quickly and does not affect the effectiveness of the drug.If you have packs that have expired, please return them to your pharmacist for disposal.Your doctor or pharmacist can provide you with further information. These people have the detailed information for specialists.
