Nasivin is a cold remedy that fights the symptoms of a cold. The active ingredient in Nasivin, oxymetazoline, has a vasoconstrictive effect. This swells the mucous membrane and makes it easier to breathe when you have a cold. The effect starts within a minute and lasts up to 12 hours. On the recommendation of a doctor or pharmacist, Nasivin can be used as a decongestant for sinusitis and tube catarrh. Nasivin nasal drops 0.01% are used in infants and Nasivin nasal drops 0.025% in small children from the age of one year

What is Nasivin and when is it used?
Nasivin is a cold remedy that fights the symptoms of a cold. The active ingredient in Nasivin, oxymetazoline, has a vasoconstrictive effect. This swells the mucous membrane and makes it easier to breathe when you have a cold. The effect starts within a minute and lasts up to 12 hours. When should Nasivin not be used?
Nasivin should not be used if the nasal mucosa is dry with crusting and crusting (nasal discomfort sicca), hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients and glaucoma (narrow-angle glaucoma).
When is caution required when using Nasivin?
Nasivin nasal drops and dosing spray 0.05% may only be used in adults and school children from the age of 6 years. Nasivin nasal drops 0.025% may only be used in small children from the age of 1 year. Nasivin should not be used for more than 5-7 days without medical advice. Long-term use can trigger a drug-related swelling of the nasal mucosa, which is very similar to a cold in its symptoms. Nasivin should be used with caution in patients who are being treated with certain medicines for depression (MAO inhibitors), who have high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases, as well as those who have an overactive thyroid gland and diabetes (diabetes mellitus). Prolonged use of Nasivin can damage the nasal mucosa. Prolonged use and higher than recommended doses of Nasivin may impair the ability to drive and use machines. There are no known drug interactions at the recommended dosage of Nasivin. Inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you suffer from other illnesses, have allergies or are taking other medicines (even those you bought yourself!) or using them externally.
Can Nasivin be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
If you are pregnant or want to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding, Nasivin should not be used or only after consultation with be used by the doctor.
How do you use Nasivin?
Unless otherwise prescribed, the following dosages must not be exceeded: Adults and school children (from 6 years of age): 1-2 Nasivin nasal drops 0.05% or 1 spray of Nasivin dosing spray 0.05% in each nostril 2-3 times a day. Infants (from 1 year): 1-2 drops of Nasivin Nose Drops 0.025% in each nostril 2-3 times a day. Infants (from 5 weeks of age to the end of the 1st year of life): 1-2 drops of Nasivin nasal drops 0.01% in each nostril 2-3 times a day. Infants (1st-4th week of life): 1 drop of Nasivin nasal drops 0.01% in each nostril 2-3 times a day. The following procedure has also proven itself: Depending on the age of the baby, 1-2 drops are placed on a cotton swab and the nasal cavity is wiped out with it. Use without prescription only temporarily, 5 to 7 days. Stick to the dosage given in the package leaflet or as prescribed by your doctor. If you think the medicine is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
What side effects can Nasivin have?
Stinging, dryness of the nasal mucosa, sneezing, headache, insomnia or palpitations have occasionally been observed. Occasionally, especially after the effect has worn off, a stronger feeling of a "blocked" nose can occur. If you notice side effects that are not described here, you should inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
What else needs to be considered?
Keep out of the reach of children! Store at room temperature (15-25°C). The medicinal product may only be used up to the date marked ?Use by? on the container. Nasivin drops 0.01%, 0.025% and 0.05%: Do not use for more than 6 months after first opening. Nasivin dosing spray 0.05%: Do not use for more than 6 months after first opening. What does Nasivin contain?
1 ml solution Nasivin nasal drops / dosing spray 0.05% contains 0.5 mg oxymetazoline HCl. 1 ml solution Nasivin nasal drops 0.025% contains 0.25 mg oxymetazoline HCl. 1 ml solution Nasivin nasal drops 0.01% contains 0.1 mg oxymetazoline HCl. Preservative: benzalkonium chloride.
