What is Echinacin, drops and when is it used?
Echinacin contains the pressed juice from the herb of the fresh, flowering Echinacea purpurea (purple coneflower) as the active principle. Purple coneflower increases the body's defenses and promotes healing. It is used to support treatment of susceptibility to infections in the respiratory tract (colds).
What should be considered?
If children are susceptible to colds, it is advisable to consult a doctor.
When should echinacin, drops not be taken or should only be taken with caution?
Echinacin drops should not be taken in the case of:
- advancing systemic diseases such as tuberculosis, disease of the white blood cells (leukemia), collagenosis (generalized autoimmune processes with connective tissue changes such as in lupus erythematosus) and multiple sclerosis,
- Hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients (see composition),
- known allergy to plants from the daisy family (Asteraceae). ), such as chamomile, arnica, marigold (Calendula), yarrow (Achillea millefolium), daisy (Bellis perennis),Children (up to 4 years of age)!
Patients who are prone to hypersensitivity reactions should consult their doctor before taking Echinacin, drops, as there is a risk of an anaphylactic reaction (see «What side effects can Echinacin, Do you have drops? »)If symptoms worsen or a high fever occurs during treatment with echinacin drops, consult a doctor. This medicinal product contains 22% alcohol by volume. If the recommended dosage for adults is observed, up to 0.47 g (for children up to 0.12 g) of alcohol are consumed with each intake. There is a health risk for people with liver disease, alcoholism, epilepsy, people with brain damage, pregnant women, breastfeeding women and children if the special children's dose is exceeded. Can Echinacin drops be taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding?Pregnancy
Alcohol can cause damage en of the unborn child. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, you must not take Echinacin drops due to its alcohol content.
Breastfeeding
There is insufficient data on the release of echinacea metabolites in breast milk. Unless prescribed by a doctor, it is not recommended to take Echinacin drops while breastfeeding.
How do you use Echinacin drops?
Adults: 20-40 drops 3 times a day in a little liquid.Children from 4 years of age: 10 drops 3 times a day.Echinacin drops should not be taken for more than 2 months without a break. Follow the dosage given in the package leaflet or prescribed by your doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
What side effects can Echinacin, drops have?
The following side effects can occur when taking or using Echinacin, drops:In individual cases, hypersensitivity reactions with e.g. skin rash, facial swelling can occur. Skin rash, itching, facial swelling, angioedema, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, shortness of breath, asthma, anaphylactic shock, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and drop in blood pressure have been observed for medicinal products containing coneflower preparationsml; consult a doctor.
If you notice any side effects that are not described here, you should inform your doctor or pharmacist.
What else needs to be considered?
Echinacin, drops contain 22% alcohol by volume.
The preparation is also available alcohol-free (as lozenges).
Keep medicines out of the reach of children! Do not store above 25 °C.
Echinacin drops are a natural product. Occasional clouding or flocculation does not affect the quality and effectiveness of the drug.
The drug may only be used up to the date marked "EXP" on the container.
