Pretuval Sore Throat contains benzydamine, an active ingredient with the following properties:
- Benzydamine quickly relieves pain and difficulty swallowing.
- Thanks to its antibacterial effect, benzydamine works against certain infectious agents.
- Benzydamine has an anti-inflammatory effect because it interferes with the processes that cause inflammation.

What is Pretuval Sore Throat and when is it used?

When not to use Pretuval Sore Throat?
Pretuval Sore Throat should not be used if you are hypersensitive to one or more of its ingredients.
When is caution required when using Pretuval Sore Throat?
Patients who are hypersensitive to acetylsalicylic acid and rheumatism and painkillers (prostaglandin inhibitors) should not use Pretuval Sore Throat use, as a nettle rash (urticaria) or asthma can be triggered. If you have angina or sore throat with a fever, you should see your doctor. You should also contact your doctor if the pain in your throat gets worse or does not improve after 3 days, fever, severe sore throat or other symptoms after using the medicine. Pretuval Sore Throat should not be used for more than a week, otherwise the normal oral flora may be affected.
Oromucosal solution(hereinafter referred to as solution):
Pretuval sore throat, solution contains the excipient methylparaben (E218). This can cause allergic reactions, including delayed reactions. This medicinal product contains up to 1200 mg alcohol (ethanol) per dose, equivalent to 10.1 vol% or 80 mg/ml (8.1% w/v). It can cause a burning sensation on damaged skin.
Spray for use in the oral cavity(hereinafter referred to as justspray):
Pretuval sore throat, spray contains the excipient methylparaben (E218). This can cause allergic reactions, including delayed reactions. This medicinal product contains up to 13.6 mg of alcohol (ethanol) per actuation, equivalent to 80 mg/ml (8.1% w/v). It can cause a burning sensation on damaged skin.
Lozenges:
Please talk to your doctor before using Pretuval Sore Throat Lozenges if you have or have had asthma. This medicinal product contains 3.4 mg of aspartame per lozenge. Aspartame is a source of phenylalanine. It can be harmful if you have phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare inherited disorder in which phenylalanine builds up because the body can't break it down enough. This medicine contains isomalt. Please only take Pretuval sore throat, lozenges after consulting your doctor if you know that you suffer from a sugar intolerance. This lemon flavored medicine contains a fragrance with citral. This ingredient may cause allergic reactions. It can cause a burning sensation on damaged skin. Butylated hydroxyanisole (E320) can cause local skin irritation (e.g. contact dermatitis), irritation of the eyes and mucous membranes. This medicinal product with a honey-orange flavor contains a fragrance with limonene, citral and citronellol. These ingredients can cause allergic reactions. Pretuval sore throat does not affect the ability to drive or use machines. Tell your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you
- suffer from other illnesses,have allergies (in particular to painkillers or medication for rheumatism) ortake other medicines (including those you have bought yourself!) or use them externally!
Can Pretuval Sore Throat be used while pregnant or breastfeeding?
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you think you may have are pregnant or planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine. Pretuval Sore Throat should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
How do you use Pretuval Sore Throat?
For the product to work best, do not eat or drink anything immediately after use. If the symptoms worsen or do not improve after 3 days, fever, severe sore throat or other symptoms occur, contact the doctor treating you.
Solution:
Adults and adolescents from the age of 12: Rinse your mouth or gargle 3 times a day with 10 ml (corresponds to approx. 1 tablespoon) of the undiluted solution for 20 to 30 seconds. You can also apply the solution directly to the desired area using a soaked cotton swab. Due to the risk of accidental ingestion, Pretuval Sore Throat Solution should not be used in children under 12 years of age.
Spray:
The spray does not contain any propellant, so the spray pump must be operated a few times before using it for the first time until liquid is sucked in. Then the atomization can take place.
Adults and adolescents from 12 years of age:
Spray the spray into the mouth and throat with 4-8 atomizations. The application can be repeated up to 6 times a day.
Children from 6 to 12 years:
Spray the spray into the oropharynx with 4 puffs. The application can be repeated up to 6 times a day. Pretuval Sore Throat Spray should not be used in children under 6 years of age due to insufficient data on efficacy and safety.
Lozenges:Adults and children over 6 years of age:
For pain relief leave one lozenge 3 times a day slowly melt in the mouth; do not swallow or chew. Do not use more than 3 lozenges a day. The treatment should not last longer than 7 days.
Children from 6 to 11 years:
The medicine may only be used under adult supervision. Dissolve one lozenge slowly in your mouth; do not swallow or chew. Pretuval Sore Throat Lozenges should not be used in children under 6 years of age due to insufficient data on efficacy and safety. If you accidentally take too many lozenges, you should contact your pharmacist, doctor or druggist or your nearest hospital casualty department immediately. Always take the labeled medicine pack with you, whether or not you have any lozenges left. In very rare cases, symptoms of overdose such as agitation, convulsions, sweating, ataxia, tremors and vomiting have been reported in children following oral administration of benzydamine doses approximately 100 times higher than benzydamine lozenges. Stick to the dosage given in the package leaflet or as prescribed by your doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
What side effects can Pretuval Sore Throat have?
The following side effects may occur when using Pretuval Sore Throat: Uncommon (affects 1 to 10 users in 1000): local numbness of the oral mucosa, temporary taste disturbance, skin sensitive to sunlight (causes rash or sunburn) Rare (affects 1 to 10 users in 10,000): Hypersensitivity reactions up to and including anaphylactic reactions (frequency unknown), laryngeal spasms, burning and dry mouth. If this happens to you, sip a glass of water to reduce the effect. Very rare (affects less than 1 in 10,000 people): itchy skin swelling, sudden swelling of the mouth and throat or mucous membranes (angioedema, the symptoms are difficulty breathing or swallowing (laryngospasm or bronchospasm), skin rash, itching, hives or swelling of the face, hands and feet, eyes, lips and/or tongue, dizziness), Frequency not known (cannot be estimated from the available data): Allergic reactions (hypersensitivity) to the ingredients of Pretuval Sore throat, hives, signs of a serious allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock) may include shortness of breath (difficulty breathing), chest pain, chest tightness, dizziness, weakness, severe itching of the skin, lumps on the skin that you can feel, swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat and can be potentially life-threatening. In this case, the treatment must be discontinued.
Lozenges:
In sensitized patients, hypersensitivity reactions (including shortness of breath) can be triggered by peppermint oil. If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist. This also applies in particular to side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.

Wirkstoffe
Benzydamini hydrochloridum.
Hilfsstoffe
Ethanolum 80 mg/ml, glycerolum, E 218 1 mg/ml, saccharinum natricum, natrii carbonas monohydricus, polysorbatum 20, aroma menthae, aqua purificata. Enthält 10,1 Vol. % Alkohol.
Darreichungsform und Wirkstoffmenge pro Einheit
Lösung zur Anwendung in der Mundhöhle sowie Spray zur Anwendung in der Mundhöhle, Lösung mit 1,5 mg (= 0,15%) Benzydaminhydrochlorid pro 1 ml.
Indikationen/Anwendungsmöglichkeiten
Symptomatische Behandlung von Schmerzen und Reizungen im Mund- und Rachenraum.
Dosierung/Anwendung
Lösung zur Anwendung in der Mundhöhle:
Erwachsene und Jugendliche ab 12 Jahren:
Mit 10 ml (entspricht ca. 1 Esslöffel) der unverdünnten Lösung erfolgt das Spülen des Mundes oder Gurgeln im Rachenraum während 20-30 Sekunden. Die Anwendung kann 3 mal täglich erfolgen. Für die gezielte Lokalbehandlung einen mit Lösung getränkten Wattebausch auf die entzündete Stelle bringen.
Aufgrund der Gefahr des versehentlichen Verschluckens wird die Anwendung von Pretuval Halsschmerzen Lösung zur Anwendung in der Mundhöhle bei Kindern nicht empfohlen.
Spray zur Anwendung in der Mundhöhle:
Handpumpe betätigen, bis Flüssigkeit angesaugt ist. Dann kann die Zerstäubung erfolgen. 1 Zerstäubung entspricht 0,17 ml Lösung.
Erwachsene und Jugendliche ab 12 Jahren:
Das Spray mit 4 bis 8 Zerstäubungen in den Mund-Rachenraum sprühen. Die Anwendung kann bis zu 6 Mal pro Tag wiederholt werden.
Kinder von 6-12 Jahren:
Das Spray mit 4 Zerstäubungen in den Mund-Rachenraum sprühen. Die Anwendung kann bis zu 6 Mal pro Tag wiederholt werden.
Die Anwendung und Sicherheit von Pretuval Halsschmerzen bei Kindern unter 6 Jahren ist bisher nicht geprüft worden.
Damit die Wirkung von Pretuval Halsschmerzen nicht verringert wird, Präparat nicht unmittelbar vor dem Essen oder Trinken anwenden.
Kontraindikationen
Überempfindlichkeit gegenüber dem Wirkstoff oder einem der Hilfsstoffe.
Die Mundspül- und Gurgellösung ist für Kinder unter 12 Jahren nicht geeignet. Das Spray soll bei Kindern unter 6 Jahren nicht angewendet werden, da keine ausreichenden Daten zur Wirksamkeit und Sicherheit vorliegen.
Warnhinweise und Vorsichtsmassnahmen
Obwohl klinische Beobachtungen bei Patienten mit Überempfindlichkeit gegen Acetylsalicylsäure keine Hinweise auf eine Kreuzallergie zwischen Acetylsalicylsäure und Benzydaminhydrochlorid geliefert haben, muss Pretuval Halsschmerzen bei Personen mit Allergie gegen nichtsteroidale Antirheumatika vorsichtig verwendet werden.
Liegen Allgemeinsymptome einer bakteriellen Infektion vor, muss eine systemische antibakterielle Behandlung ins Auge gefasst werden.
Die Indikationen rechtfertigen keine Langzeitbehandlung, da eine solche die normale Bakterienflora der Mundhöhle beeinträchtigen könnte.

Es liegen keine klinischen Daten mit Anwendung bei Schwangeren vor. Reproduktionsstudien beim Tier haben kein Risiko für den Feten ergeben. Bei der Anwendung in der Schwangerschaft ist Vorsicht geboten.
Stillzeit
Es wurde nicht geprüft, ob Benzydaminhydrochlorid in die Muttermilch übergeht. Über die Verwendung von Pretuval Halsschmerzen während der Stillzeit liegen keine Studien vor.
Wirkung auf die Fahrtüchtigkeit und auf das Bedienen von Maschinen

Überdosierung
Bei versehentlicher Einnahme einer Dosis von mehr als 10 mg pro kg Körpergewicht können Symptome wie psychomotorische Unruhe, Angstzustände, Tremor, Ataxie, Agitation, Halluzinationen, generalisierte epileptische Krampfanfälle, seltener Koma und Tachykardie auftreten.
Primäre gastrointestinale Dekontamination durch Magenspülung oder Gabe von Aktivkohle innert 1 Stunde nach Einnahme von mehr als 10 mg pro kg Körpergewicht.

Wirkungsmechanismus
Der in Pretuval Halsschmerzen enthaltene Wirkstoff Benzydaminhydrochlorid besitzt folgende Eigenschaften:
Entzündungshemmende Wirkung auf die vaskuläre Phase der Entzündung; verhindert die kapillare Vasodilatation und die Bildung interstitieller Ödeme.
Leichte bakterizide Wirkung in vitro gegen gewisse gramnegative (E. coli) und grampositive Keime (Streptococcus pyogenes) sowie fungizider Effekt (Candida albicans und Aspergillus niger).
Lokalanästhetische Wirkung.

Pharmakokinetik
Absorption
Bei topischer Applikation einer Benzydaminhydrochlorid Lösung zu 0,15% im Mundbereich beträgt die systemische Verfügbarkeit nach Absorption durch die Mundschleimhaut zirka 10%.
Im Tierversuch wurde nachgewiesen, dass nach topischer Anwendung der Gurgellösung im Mund- und Rachengewebe Konzentrationen erreicht werden, die wesentlich über den bei systemischer Verabreichung erzielten Werten liegen.
Distribution
Bei oraler Applikation wird Benzydaminhydrochlorid umfassend und langsam in die Gewebe verteilt (Verteilungsvolumen = 100 l). Die Bindung an Plasmaproteine beträgt lediglich 10 bis 15%.
Metabolismus
In 24 Stunden werden rund 40% einer Einzeldosis in Form polarer Metaboliten (hauptsächlich Benzydamin-N-oxid und 5-Hydroxy-benzydamin-glucuronid) und 5% als unverändertes Benzydaminhydrochlorid mit dem Urin ausgeschieden.
70% der verabreichten Dosis werden über die Nieren ausgeschieden.
Elimination
Die Plasmahalbwertszeit beläuft sich auf zirka 10 Stunden.
Präklinische Daten
Standardmässige Studien in verschiedenen Versuchstieren zur akuten und chronischen Toxizität, zur Genotoxizität und Kanzerogenität sowie zur lokalen Toleranz zeigten keine für die klinisch-therapeutische Anwendung am Menschen relevanten Effekte.
In reproduktionstoxikologischen Studien an Ratte und Kaninchen zeigte sich eine Entwicklungs- sowie peri-postnatale Toxizität bei einer Plasmakonzentration die um ein Vielfaches (bis zu 40 mal) über der Plasmakonzentration nach Gabe einer oralen therapeutischen Einzeldosis lag. In diesen Studien wurden keine teratogenen Effekte beobachtet.
Anhand der verfügbaren toxikokinetischen Daten ist es nicht möglich, die klinische Relevanz dieser reproduktionstoxikologischen Studien zu evaluieren.
