DRAC AG

In the event of a risk from radioactive iodine, the authorities regulate both the provision and the intake of radioactive iodine via radio and other media Potassium Iodide 65 SERB Tablets.

What is potassium iodide 65 SERB and when is it used?

Potassium iodide 65 SERB is an emergency remedy that, in the specified dosage, saturates the thyroid gland and thus when there is a risk of radioactivity prevents the uptake of radioactive iodine in the thyroid gland. If such a risk is to be expected in your area, the authorities will order you to take potassium iodide 65 SERB tablets.

What should be considered?

If radioactive substances are released in the event of a serious nuclear power plant accident, sirens will sound the alarm. After that, the authorities' instructions will be announced via radio and other media. Please do not take any pills unless asked to do so by the authorities. Potassium iodide 65 SERB tablets prevent the storage of radioactive iodine in the thyroid gland. However, they offer no protection against radiation that affects the body and the respiratory tract from the outside. Therefore, if there is a risk of radioactivity, the inside of the house or a basement or shelter must always be visited.

When should potassium iodide 65 SERB not be taken/used?

Potassium iodide tablets may be taken if there is a known hypersensitivity to iodine, untreated hyperthyroidism or one of the following rare skin, vascular or congenital muscle diseases not taken: dermatitis herpetiformis, iododerma tuberosum, hypocomplementemic vasculitis, myotonia congenita.
