What is Buscopan and when is it used?

Buscopan has an antispasmodic and thus pain-relieving effect on the muscles of the gastrointestinal tract. Buscopan relieves pain associated with spasms of the gastrointestinal tract and constipation with spasms.

When not to use Buscopan?

Do not use Buscopan,

  • in the very rare diseases myasthenia gravis (muscle disease)in megacolon (large intestine disease).if mechanical constrictions in the gastrointestinal tract (e.g. due to a tumor or a kinked bowel ) are present or suspected,if the bowel is blocked and not working properly (intestinal obstruction or paralysis leading to severe abdominal pain with inability to have a bowel movement and/or nausea/vomiting),If you are hypersensitive to scopolamine butyl bromide or any other ingredient in the drug.

One Buscopan dragée contains 41.2 mg sucrose. At the maximum recommended dosage, this corresponds to 411.8 mg of sucrose per day. If you suffer from fructose intolerance, you should not take this medicine.

When should caution be taken when using Buscopan?
