Description - Nicostop-Mepha chewing gum 4 mg mint 24 pcs

What is Nicostop-Mepha and when is it used?

Nicostop-Mepha is chewing gum containing nicotine. It is recommended as a support if you want to quit smoking or if you want to reduce cigarette consumption as a first step.Nicotine is released during chewing for approx. 30 minutes. Nicotine is the addictive component in tobacco smoke and is responsible for the various withdrawal symptoms associated with smoking cessation. Administering nicotine with Nicostop-Mepha reduces these withdrawal symptoms and makes it easier for smokers to give up cigarettes. This roughly doubles the chances of successfully quitting smoking.Once you have acquired new habits (substitute actions for smoking), experience has shown that you will find it easier to gradually get by with less Nicostop-Mepha and later to give up completely. Health damage caused by the tar and carbon monoxide content in tobacco smoke is avoided.

What should be considered?

Your motivation and willpower are decisive for the success of the treatment. If you use Nicostop-Mepha to reduce cigarette consumption, there is probably no risk of a higher nicotine level than with normal smoking if Nicostop-Mepha is only used during the smoke-free intervals. If you use Nicostop-Mepha 2 mg as part of a cessation cure, you should stop smoking completely, as if you continue smoking unabated there is a risk of side effects, including for the heart and circulation and the risk of maintaining nicotine dependence due to higher nicotine levels than with normal smoking. It is therefore important that you are strongly motivated to quit smoking before you start Nicostop-Mepha treatment. Professional smoking advice increases the chances of quitting successfully.

Nicostop-Mepha is not a stimulant. Nicostop-Mepha contains peppermint oil and other flavorings. Nicostop-Mepha are sweetened with sorbitol. Therefore, diabetics can also chew Nicostop-Mepha (see «What does Nicostop-Mepha contain?»).

When must Nicostop-Mepha not be used?

Nicostop-Mepha must not be used by non-smokers and children under the age of 12! For young people under 18 and over 12 years of age, the drug should only be used if they are heavily dependent on nicotine and only after consultation with the doctor, pharmacist or druggist. Nicostop-Mepha, must not be used for nicotine or other ingredients of the chewing gum in the case of known hypersensitivity. Carefully discuss with your doctor:

In these cases, the use of the preparation should only be considered if smoking cessation is not possible without the support of medication. If you develop new or worsening existing cardiovascular symptoms (chest pain, irregular pulse, shortness of breath), you should consult a doctor.

Please only take Nicostop chewing gum after consulting your doctor if you knowthat you suffer from a sugar intolerance.Sorbitol is a source of fructose. Talk to your doctor before taking or receiving this medicine if your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars or if you have been diagnosed with hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI) - a rare congenital condition in which a person cannot break down fructose -.Butylated hydroxytoluene (E321) may cause localized skin irritation (e.g. contact dermatitis), irritation of the eyes and mucous membranes. This medicine contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per chewing gum, i.e. it is essentially «sodium-free».This medicine may impair your ability to react, drive and use tools or machines!Tell your doctor, pharmacist or pharmacist if you:

  • have any other illnesses, have allergies or Take other medicines (including those you bought yourself!).

Quiting up smoking with or without Nicostop-Mepha can change the response to concomitantly administered medicines for asthma, cardiac arrhythmia, severe pain, mood disorders, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, restless leg syndrome or diabetes (insulin). If necessary, your doctor will prescribe a dose adjustment of the affected medicines.

Can Nicostop-Mepha be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Smoking cessation is the most effective single measure to improve the health of the pregnant smoker and the baby. The sooner you stop smoking, the better.Nicotine should not be used in any form during pregnancy. Nicotine, and especially smoking, can seriously endanger the health of the fetus and child and should be discontinued during pregnancy. Pregnant women who smoke should only use Nicostop-Mepha after consulting their doctor, pharmacist or druggist.Nicotine should not be taken/used while breastfeeding. If smoking cessation is not achieved, Nicostop-Mepha should only be used in breast-feeding smokers after consultation with a doctor, pharmacist or druggist. Should the use of Nicostop-Mepha be necessary, Nicostop-Mepha should be used immediately after breastfeeding and allow as much time as possible (at least 2 hours) before the next breastfeeding.

How do you use Nicostop-Mepha?

Nicostop-Mepha is intended for adults aged 18 and over. For young people under the age of 18 and over 12 years of age, the preparation should only be used if they are heavily dependent on nicotine and only after consultation with the doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

The starting dose should be determined individually based on the nicotine dependency. 8-12 Nicostop-Mepha of the appropriate dosage strength per day should usually be sufficient. If you are heavily dependent on nicotine, i.e. smoke the first cigarette within 20 minutes of getting up and smoke more than 20 cigarettes per day, start treatment with Nicostop-Mepha 4 mg. Nicostop-Mepha 2 mg is usually sufficient for weak to moderate nicotine dependency. No more than 15 pieces of gum should be chewed per day.

If you feel like smoking, chew a Nicostop-Mepha immediately, very slowly, for about 30 minutes. Take regular breaks from chewing and let the chewed nicotine soak into your oral mucosa. The gum should be chewed until a strong taste or a slight burning sensation is experienced. The gum should then be pushed into the cheek and left there until the taste and/or burning sensation has subsided. Then continue chewing slowly and repeatedly.AvoidYou chew too fast and too hard to avoid releasing too much nicotine too quickly. Avoid drinking beverages immediately prior to and during chewing as this will greatly reduce your exposure to the nicotine released.

Canceling

Most smokers need 8-12 chewing gums of the appropriate dosage per day. Up to 15 pieces of Nicostop-Mepha can be chewed as needed. After 8 weeks, it's time to start gradually cutting back on nicotine. For the next 2 weeks, reduce the number of gums you chew per day by half. Stop treatment after the next 2 weeks if you managed to get the dose down to 0 on the last day. The duration of treatment is individual, but is a maximum of 3 months.

Reduction in cigarette consumption

The chewing gum is used during the smoke-free intervals in order to extend this as long as possible and thus reduce cigarette consumption as much as possible. Never chew gum and smoke at the same time or chew gum and smoke in direct succession without a break. If you have not achieved a significant reduction in daily cigarette consumption after 6 weeks, you should seek advice from your doctor. You should try to quit smoking as soon as you feel ready, but no later than 6 months after starting treatment. If you are still unable to stop smoking 9 months after starting treatment, you should consult your doctor.

The recommended duration of treatment with Nicostop-Mepha is a maximum of 12 months.

Unused chewing gum should be kept, as the urge to smoke can suddenly come back.

Stick to the dose given in the package leaflet or prescribed by your doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What side effects can Nicostop-Mepha have?

Nicostop-Mepha can cause the same undesirable effects as other forms of nicotine. These are generally dose dependent. Some of the undesirable effects of quitting smoking may be withdrawal symptoms due to reduced nicotine intake. These include irritability, aggression, impatience, frustration, anxiety, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, waking up late at night, trouble sleeping, increased appetite, weight gain, constipation, feeling depressed, craving to smoke, slow heart rate, bleeding gums, dizziness, lightheadedness, cough, sore throat, mouth ulcers, stuffy or runny nose. If you stop smoking, canker sores can also develop. The reason for this is not known. Most side effects occur during the first few weeks after starting Nicostop-Mepha treatment. In many cases, incorrect chewing technique is the reason. At the beginning of Nicostop-Mepha treatment, the oral mucosa may become somewhat irritated, or hiccups and nausea may occur due to chewing too quickly. In these cases, stop chewing immediately and allow the gum to sit in a cheek pouch for 1 to 2 minutes. The delivery of nicotine is thus interrupted and the irritation quickly subsides. Then chew again very slowly with further breaks.
