Carbidopa / Levodopa Sandoz CR is a medicine used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. In Parkinson's disease, dopamine, an endogenous substance, is only available in insufficient quantities in certain brain centers.Carbidopa / Levodopa Sandoz CR contains two components, levodopa and carbidopa. Levodopa, a precursor to dopamine, replaces the insufficient amount of dopamine. Carbidopa ensures that very little levodopa is converted into dopamine outside the brain, because on the one hand it is not necessary there and on the other hand it can cause undesirable side effects.Carbidopa / Levodopa Sandoz CR can only combat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, but cannot eliminate the cause of the underlying disease. A cure for this disease is still not possible.Carbidopa / Levodopa Sandoz CR may only be used if prescribed and under the constant supervision of your doctor.

In the case of severe cardiovascular or lung diseases, bronchial asthma, kidney, liver or hormonal diseases, caution is required as well as after a heart attack, cardiac arrhythmias, gastrointestinal ulcers, involuntary movements or chronic wide-angle glaucoma. A history of certain nervous disorders may also be a reason for caution when taking Carbidopa / Levodopa Sandoz CR. Gastrointestinal bleeding may occur in patients who have had a gastrointestinal ulcer.You should therefore inform your doctor about any medical problems that you have or have had in the past, including allergies, depression or mental disorders or tuberculosis.Tell your doctor if you have been treated with levodopa in the past.Tell your doctor or health care professional if you or your family members / caregivers notice that you are developing any of the following: urge to play, increased sex drive, excessive eating or spending, and / or other intense compulsive behaviors that could harm you or others. These behaviors are known as impulse control disorders. Your doctor may need to review your treatment.Tell your doctor or health care professional if you or your family / caregiver notice that you develop addiction-like symptoms that lead to craving for high doses of Carbidopa / Levodopa CR and other medicines used to treat Parkinson's disease , lead (known as dopamine dysregulation syndrome).If you are under 18 years of age, you must not take Carbidopa / Levodopa Sandoz CR.Certain other medicines can affect the way Carbidopa / Levodopa Sandoz CR works. These are, for example, antihypertensive drugs, certain drugs for depression or other mental illnesses, iron supplements, drugs for tuberculosis, drugs for muscle spasms, seizures or other diseases that are associated with involuntary movements.Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you suffer from other diseases, have allergies or are taking or applying other medicines (including those you have bought yourself!)!This medicine can impair the ability to react, to use tools or machines and to the ability to drive! Individual reactions to drugs can be different. Sudden, short sleep episodes, sometimes without warning, or severe sleepiness may occur during treatment with Carbidopa / Levodopa Sandoz CR. Therefore, while you are taking Carbidopa / Levodopa Sandoz CR, you must not drive or engage in other activities (e.g. operate machines) that may cause you or others to be less alert, if you suffer from sudden short periods of sleep or severe daytime sleepiness and until you have had sufficient experience about the impairment.Patients with Parkinson's disease have an increased risk of developing black skin cancer (melanoma) than the general population. You should therefore have your skin examined by an experienced dermatologist at regular intervals and, among other things, pay attention to enlargement, color change and itching of skin areas (e.g. moles) and contact your doctor immediately inform about.

Can Carbidopa / Levodopa Sandoz CR be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
