When is Weleda Calendula Essence used?
According to anthroposophical knowledge of man and nature, Weleda Calendula -Essence is used to treat superficial injuries, wounds that do not heal well, skin inflammation that tends to suppuration, inflammation of the gums and pimples or pustules. Weleda Calendula Essence is made from fresh marigold flowers (calendula) and has a disinfecting, anti-inflammatory and healing-promoting effect on wounds and inflammation of the skin of all kinds.
What should be considered?
Large, heavily soiled wounds as well as bite and puncture wounds require medical treatment (danger of tetanus). If the size of a wound remains unchanged for some time or if the wound does not heal within 10-14 days, a doctor's visit is also necessary. The same applies if the edges of the wound are very red, the wound suddenly swells, is very painful or the injury is accompanied by fever (danger of blood poisoning). If your doctor has prescribed other medicines for you, ask your doctor or pharmacist whether Weleda Calendula Essence may be used at the same time.
When should Weleda Calendula Essence not be used or only with caution?
Weleda Calendula Essence should not be used if there is a known hypersensitivity to calendula (marigold) and other asteraceae (daisy family). Tell your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you
- suffer from other diseases,
- have allergies or
- take other medicines (including those you bought yourself!) or use them externally.
How do you use Weleda Calendula Essence?
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, Weleda Calendula Essence can be used as follows: For wound irrigation: Dilute 1 teaspoon of Weleda Calendula Essence in approx. 2.5 dl of boiled water and rinse the wound with it. For wound dressings: Moisten sterile gauze with diluted Weleda calendula essence (see «Wound rinses») and place this on the affected part of the body. Then secure the compress with a bandage. Renew the envelope several times a day so that it stays moist. For mouthwashes: Dilute ¼ teaspoon of Weleda Calendula Essence in ½ glass of warm water and rinse your mouth with it for a few minutes. Repeat several times a day. For skin pimples and pustules: After cleaning the skin, dab Weleda Calendula Essence undiluted with a cotton swab. Let dry. Follow the dosage given in the package leaflet or as prescribed by your doctor. If the desired improvement does not occur during the treatment of a small child/child, a doctor should be consulted with them. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
What side effects can Weleda Calendula Essence have?
In rare cases, allergic skin reactions and hypersensitivity can occur. In these cases, Weleda Calendula Essence should be discontinued. Initial burning that quickly subsides when used on smaller, open wounds is due to the alcohol content and is part of its disinfecting effect. If you notice side effects that are not described here, you should inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
What else needs to be considered?
Make sure that Weleda Calendula Essence does not come into contact with the eyes. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children. Store at room temperature (15-25°C) and away from moisture. The medicinal product may only be used up to the date marked «EXP» on the container. Your doctor, pharmacist or druggist can provide you with further information.
