Description - Fortecortin tabl 4 mg 30 pcs

What is Fortecortin and when is it used?

Fortecortin tablets contain the synthetically produced active ingredient dexamethasone. This steroid hormone has a stronger effect than the corresponding endogenous hormone (cortisol). It has a strong anti-inflammatory effect, influences the body's defense system and counteracts local water retention (edema). This is why it is used to treat the swelling of the brain that occurs in head injuries, cerebral hemorrhages, operations on the brain, inflammation of the meninges, pus accumulation in the brain, strokes and cranial irradiation.Fortecortin can also be used to treat acute attacks of inflammatory rheumatic diseases (chronic polyarthritis), acute attacks of certain skin diseases (e.g. eczema), certain lung diseases (e.g. severe bronchial asthma), acute attacks of certain inflammatory bowel diseases, and severe infectious diseases. Fortecortin is used in the treatment of tumors to relieve certain tumor-related symptoms and to treat or prevent vomiting caused by chemotherapy. The drug may only be used on prescription from a doctor.

What precautions should be taken?

During therapy with Fortecortin, if prescribed by the doctor, suitable nutrition, physiotherapy and other accompanying measures should be maintained.

When should Fortecortin not be used?

Fortecortin must not be used if you are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients.

When should caution be required when taking Fortecortin?

Fortecortin can affect the ability to react, use tools or machines and the ability to drive. This impairment is particularly due to changes in mood, drive and ability to concentrate. If you take other medicines at the same time, this can lead to an increased occurrence of undesirable effects. Particular attention is required when taking the following medicines at the same time: medicines for heart failure, diuretics, laxatives, blood sugar-lowering medicines, medicines that inhibit blood clotting, medicines for rheumatism, medicines for tuberculosis, medicines for epileptic seizures, medicines for pork tapeworm infections, sleeping pills, pain relievers , Medicines for stomach acidity and heartburn, medicines for fungal diseases, oestrogens ('pill' or hormone replacement therapy after menopause), antihypertensive medicines, muscle relaxants, medicines for malaria, medicines,You should not be vaccinated while you are being treated with Fortecortin. Your doctor will know what to do in this case. Also let him / her know if you have recently visited tropical countries. Tell your doctor or health care professional immediately if you develop an infectious disease while you are being treated with Fortecortin. Also tell your doctor if you have gastrointestinal ulcers, severe bone fragility (osteoporosis), mental disorders, amoebic infections, fungal infections of internal organs or glaucoma.Treatment with this medicine can cause a so-called pheochromocytoma crisis, which can be fatal. Pheochromocytoma is a rare hormone-dependent tumor of the adrenal gland. Possible symptoms of a crisis are headache, sweating, palpitations and high blood pressure (hypertension). Talk to your doctor or health care professional immediately if you notice any of these signs.Talk to your doctor before taking Fortecortin tablets: if you suspect or know that you have a pheochromocytoma (tumor of the adrenal gland).Fortecortin should only be used in emergencies in children under 12 years of age. The doctor will prescribe a dosage that depends more on the severity of the illness than on age and body weight.Consult your doctor or health care professional if you experience visual disturbances. Please only take Fortecortin after consulting your doctor if you know that you are intolerant to sugar.Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you suffer from other illnesses, have allergies or take other medicines (including those you have bought yourself) or use externally.

Can Fortecortin be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

You should only take Fortecortin during pregnancy if the doctor deems it absolutely necessary. It is imperative that women inform the doctor about a suspected or actual pregnancy.Since small amounts of the active ingredient pass into breast milk when taking Fortecortin during breastfeeding, breastfeeding should be discontinued. Tell your doctor or health care professional if you are breastfeeding.

How do you use fortecortin?

The doctor will determine the dosage of the tablets individually according to the type, severity and course of the disease. He / she will decide whether treatment with tablets must be preceded by injection treatment, whether the dose can be gradually reduced during the course of treatment and whether additional treatment or a switch to another medicine of the same type as Fortecortin is necessary. For more severe clinical pictures (e.g. acute relapses of rheumatic diseases, severe infectious diseases, certain skin, lung and intestinal diseases, tumor-related complaints, chemotherapy-related vomiting), treatment generally starts with 4-16 mg Fortecortin daily and is then continued with a lower dose.In children, the doctor also individually adjusts the dose to the type, severity and course of the disease, usually reduced it in small steps once the patient has responded adequately and the drug is discontinued as soon as possible. If necessary, the tablets can be halved. The daily dose should be swallowed whole in the morning with some liquid. When treating cerebral edema, tumor-related symptoms and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, it may be necessary to divide the daily dose into 2-4 individual doses and to swallow it whole after meals with some liquid. The disturbed stress reaction under long-term glucocorticoid therapy makes it necessary to increase the corticosteroid dose under stressful conditions. After long-term treatment, the disturbed stress reaction can be expected up to a year after discontinuation of the drug and makes preventive corticosteroid administration necessary in stressful situations! Your doctor will know what to do in such cases.Do not change the prescribed dosage on your own. If you think that the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Under no circumstances should you suddenly stop treatment without your doctor's advice.

What side effects can Fortecortin have?

Increased risk of infection, concealment of infections, changes in the blood count, hypersensitivity reactions, full moon face, trunk obesity, functional impairment of the adrenal cortex, water retention in the body, increased potassium excretion, weight gain, increase in blood sugar, increase in blood lipid levels, increased appetite, mental disorders such as depression, sleep disorders and restlessness Suicidal thoughts. Epileptic convulsions, glaucoma, cataracts, blurred vision, increased occurrence of eye infections, rise in blood pressure, increased risk of atherosclerosis and thrombosis, stomach or duodenal ulcers, stomach bleeding, stomach discomfort. Skin changes (e.g. acne, brown-red streaking of the skin), increased body hair, muscle and tendon complaints, increased fragility of bones (osteoporosis),Tell your doctor or health care professional if you get any of these side effects. The risk of side effects can be reduced by:
