What is BETADINA, disinfecting ointment and when will it be applied?
BETADINA, disinfecting wound ointment is a fat-free, water-soluble ointment for external use. It kills bacteria, fungi, viruses and other pathogens that cause infection.BETADINA, disinfecting wound ointment is used to prevent infections in small wounds on the skin and mucous membranes, small, minor burns (without blistering), skin damage, skin tears and abrasions.BETADINA, disinfecting wound ointment, is used to treat infected wounds only if prescribed by a doctor.
What should be considered?
Large, heavily soiled and deep wounds as well as severe burns, bites and puncture wounds require medical treatment (including the risk of tetanus). If the size of a wound remains unchanged for some time or if the wound does not heal within 10-14 days, a doctor's visit is also necessary; also if the edges of the wound are very red, the wound suddenly swells, is very painful or the injury is accompanied by fever (danger of blood poisoning).
When must BETADINA, disinfecting wound ointment not be used?
BETADINA, disinfecting wound ointment must not be used:
- if you are hypersensitive to povidone-iodine, iodine, macrogol 400 or any other ingredient,if you have an overactive thyroid gland or another existing disease of the thyroid gland,if you have dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring ( very rare, herpes-like skin disease),before and until the end of an examination or treatment of the thyroid with labeled iodine (radio-iodine application). The iodine uptake of the thyroid gland can be influenced by povidone-iodine. During treatment with BETADINA, this can lead to disturbances in diagnostic examinations of the thyroid gland (thyroid scintigraphy, determination of the iodine bound to proteins, radio-iodine diagnostics) and a planned radio- make iodine therapy impossible. There should be an interval of at least 1-2 weeks after stopping treatment with BETADINA before administering radioiodine;in neonates and infants under 6 months.
When is caution required when using BETADINA, disinfecting wound ointment?
BETADINA should be used in the case of thyroid enlargement or -nodules or other non-acute diseases of the thyroid gland may only be used on the express prescription of your doctor over a longer period of time (e.g. longer than 14 days) or over a large area (e.g. more than 10% of the body surface). Even after stopping treatment (up to 3 months), early symptoms of possible hyperthyroidism should be observed and thyroid function monitored if indicated.
BETADINA may only be used in infants and small children aged 6 months to 6 years used with a doctor's prescription. Thyroid function may need to be checked. Any intake of BETADINA by a child should be absolutely avoided.BETADINA should not be used or the treatment should be discontinued in the case of metabolic acidosis of the blood (metabolic acidosis) and kidney failure.BETADINA may not be used at the same time as or shortly after enzymatic wound treatment agents or disinfectants containing silver , hydrogen peroxide or taurolidine, as this can lead to a mutual weakening of the effect.
BETADINA must not be used simultaneously with or shortly after mercury-containing disinfectants iodine and mercury can form a substance that damages the skin.Do not use BETADINA at the same time as or immediately after using disinfectants containing octenidine on the same or adjacent areas, as it otherwise temporary dark discoloration may occur.
If you are treated with lithium preparations, you should avoid long-term or large-scale use ofAvoid BETADINA, since absorbed iodine can promote the possible triggering of hypothyroidism by lithium.Inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you suffer from other diseases, have allergies or take other medicines (including those you bought yourself!) or use them externally!
May BETADINA, disinfecting wound ointment during pregnancy or in the be used while breastfeeding?
During pregnancy and while breastfeeding, you should only use BETADINA, disinfecting wound ointment if expressly prescribed by a doctor and limit it to the absolute minimum. Monitoring of thyroid function in the newborn or infant may be required. Accidental intake of BETADINA by the infant through the mouth through contact with the treated part of the nursing mother's body must be avoided. Tell your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
How do you use BETADINA, disinfecting wound ointment?Adults, adolescents and children over 6 years
If yours Unless otherwise instructed by your doctor, apply BETADINA, disinfecting wound ointment, as follows:
Apply the ointment directly from the tube to the area to be treated or onto a swab or apply a gauze; spread carefully on the wound. If necessary, cover with a bandage.
As long as the golden-brown color of the BETADINA is visible, the ointment has a disinfecting effect. Discoloration means a decrease in effectiveness and signals that a new application should take place. Therefore, apply new BETADINA, disinfecting wound ointment, if you notice a clear discoloration. You should also renew the wound ointment every time you change the dressing.
BETADINA, disinfecting wound ointment, can be used several times a day. Continue treatment until healing.
If your symptoms have not improved after several days (2-5 days) of regular use, or if symptoms recur after treatment is complete, you should see your doctor .In the event of accidental ingestion, the doctor must be informed immediately.
Children from 6 months to 6 years h4>
BETADINA must not be used in newborns and infants under 6 months (see the section ?When must BETADINA, disinfecting wound ointment, not be used??). Only use on small children up to 6 years of age if prescribed by a doctor (see the section ?When should you be careful when using BETADINA, disinfecting wound ointment??)
Observe the instructions given in the leaflet or dosage prescribed by the doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
What side effects can BETADINA, disinfecting wound ointment have?
In rare cases, hypersensitivity or contact dermatitis (with symptoms such as reddening of the skin, blisters, itching) can occur.In very rare cases, acute, painful swelling of the skin or mucous membranes (angioedema) and acute allergic general reactions may occur with a drop in blood pressure and/or shortness of breath (anaphylactic reaction). In such cases, treatment should be stopped immediately and the doctor informed immediately.
Long-term use on extensive areas of skin, wounds or burns can result in appreciable iodine uptake. In very rare cases, patients with thyroid disease may have an overactive thyroid gland with symptoms such as increased heart rate or inner restlessness.
In individual cases, an underactive thyroid gland, disturbances in the electrolyte balance, metabolic acidosis of the blood (metabolic acidosis), acute kidney failure and a abnormal blood osmolarity occur.If you notice any side effects that are not described here, you should tell your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.Inform the pharmacist or druggist.
