Betadine Liquid Soap is a shampoo with germicidal properties. It kills bacteria, fungi, viruses and other pathogens that cause infection. Betadine liquid soap is used:
- for disinfecting skin cleansing for acne, pimples and greasy skin,
- for cleaning and disinfecting the hair and scalp for diseases of the scalp,
- for hygienic purposes Hand disinfection for activities where there is a risk of infection, resp. where the transmission of germs from one patient to another must be avoided.
Betadine liquid soap is used for skin fungi only if prescribed by a doctor. In hospitals and medical practices, Betadine liquid soap is used to disinfect hands before surgical interventions and to disinfect skin before operations.

What is Betadine liquid soap and when is it used?
Betadine Liquid Soap is a skin wash with germicidal properties. It kills bacteria, fungi, viruses and other pathogens that cause infection. Betadine liquid soap is used:
- for disinfecting skin cleansing for acne, pimples and greasy skin,for cleaning and disinfecting the hair and scalp for diseases of the scalp,for hygienic Hand disinfection for activities where there is a risk of infection, resp. where the transmission of germs from one patient to another must be avoided.

When should Betadine liquid soap not be used?
Betadine liquid soap should not be used:
- in the case of hypersensitivity to povidone-iodine, iodine, soaps (detergents) or any other ingredient,in the case of functional disorders and diseases of the thyroid gland,in the case of dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring ( very rare, herpes-like skin disease),before, during and until the end of an examination or treatment of the thyroid gland with labeled iodine (radio-iodine application), as this is affected by Betadine liquid soap,with the simultaneous use of preparations containing mercury, since a substance is formed that can damage the skin,in children under the age of 1 year.
When should you be careful when using Betadine Liquid Soap?
If you suffer from thyroid disease or have a goiter, you should only use Betadine Liquid Soap if specifically directed to do so by your doctor or nurse use doctor. Even after the end of treatment, early symptoms of possible hyperthyroidism should be observed for up to 3 months. Your doctor may monitor your thyroid function. Betadine Liquid Soap should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as thyroid dysfunction can occur in the unborn child and infant (see «Can Betadine Liquid Soap be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?»). Betadine Liquid Soap is for use on infants aged 1-6 years only with a doctor's prescription. Thyroid function may need to be checked. Absolutely avoid any ingestion of Betadine liquid soap by a child. When disinfecting skin prior to surgery, avoid accumulation of Betadine Liquid Soap in skin folds or under the patient, as prolonged skin contact may cause skin irritation and, in rare cases, severe skin reactions similar to burns. Do not heat before use. Betadine Liquid Soap must not penetrate under electrode pads. Betadine liquid soap should not be used or the treatment should be discontinued in the case of metabolic acidosis of the blood (metabolic acidosis) and kidney failure. Betadine Liquid Soap should not be used concurrently with or shortly after enzymatic wound treatment agents or disinfectants containing silver , hydrogen peroxide or taurolidine, as the effects of each other may be reduced. Do not use Betadine liquid soap at the same time as or immediately after using octenidine-based disinfectants on the same or adjacent areas, as this may cause temporary dark discoloration. If you are being treated with lithium preparations, you should avoid long-term or extensive use of Betadine liquid soap, as absorbed iodine can promote the possible lithium-induced hypothyroidism. Tell your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you
- suffer from other illnesses,have allergies ortake other medicines (including those you bought yourself!) or use them externally!
Can Betadine liquid soap be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Betadine liquid soap should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding because the unborn child or newborn relevant amounts of iodine via the mother and severe thyroid dysfunction in the newborn may occur. Accidental ingestion of Betadine Liquid Soap by the infant through the mouth through contact with the treated area of ??the breastfeeding mother must be avoided. Tell your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
How do you use Betadine liquid soap?Adults, adolescents and children over 6 years
If directed by your doctor Unless otherwise instructed by your healthcare professional, use Betadine Liquid Soap as follows:
For disinfecting skin cleaning
Moisten the skin well. Put some Betadine liquid soap on the area to be treated and lather it up with your finger or a clean cotton ball. Leave the foam on for 1-3 minutes. Rinse off. Dab dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. Use up to 3 times a day for acne, bibles and fungal infections, and several times a week for oily, blemished skin.
As a disinfecting shampoo
Wet your hair well and spread about 2 teaspoons of Betadine liquid soap on it. Massage well into the hair and scalp until a dense, yellowish foam forms. If necessary, add a little more water to improve foam formation. Rinse hair well and squeeze out water. Repeat the process and leave the foam on for at least 5 minutes. Rinse hair thoroughly and dry as you would a normal hair wash. Treatment should be repeated twice a week until improvement occurs. After that, a weekly application is sufficient.
For hygienic hand disinfection
Moisten hands and forearms well. Put 5 ml of Betadine liquid soap in the palm of your hand and rub carefully into your hands and forearms for 1 minute. Add some water to improve foam formation. Children from 1 to 6 years
Betadine liquid soap must not be used in newborn babies and infants under 1 year (see «When should Betadine liquid soap not be used?» ). Only use on small children up to 6 years of age if prescribed by a doctor (see «When should you be careful when using Betadine liquid soap?»). In the event of accidental ingestion, the doctor must be informed immediately. Stick to the dosage given in the package leaflet or as prescribed by your doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
What side effects can Betadine liquid soap have?Rare (affects 1 to 10 in 10,000 people)
In rare cases hypersensitivity or contact dermatitis (with symptoms such as skin reddening, blisters, itching) can occur.
Very rare (affects less than 1 in 10,000 people treated)
In very rare cases, acute, painful swelling of the skin or mucous membranes (angioedema) and acute general allergic reactions can occur may occur with a drop in blood pressure and/or shortness of breath (anaphylactic reaction). In such cases, the treatment should be stopped immediately and the doctor informed immediately. Significant iodine uptake may occur with prolonged use on extensive areas of skin, wounds or burns. In very rare cases, patients with thyroid disorders may experience hyperthyroidism with symptoms such as increased heart rate or inner restlessness. In individual cases, hypothyroidism, disturbances in the electrolyte balance, metabolism-related hyperacidity of the blood (metabolic acidosis), acute kidney failure and abnormal blood osmolarity can occur. If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist. This also applies in particular to side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.

The medicinal product may only be used up to the date marked on the container with « EXP» can be used.
