What are Fenivir cream and tinted cream and when are they used?

Fenivir cream and tinted cream are used for the local treatment of cold sores on the lips (= herpes labialis). They belong to the group of drugs that are effective against viruses.

What should be considered?

The active ingredient in Fenivir cream and tinted cream is not effective against all microorganisms that cause infectious diseases. Using an incorrectly chosen or incorrectly dosed drug can cause complications. Therefore, never use the preparation yourself to treat other diseases or other people.

When should Fenivir cream or tinted cream not be used?

Fenivir cream or tinted cream should not be used if there is a known hypersensitivity to the active ingredients penciclovir, famciclovir or one of the excipients, e.g. propylene glycol.

When should caution be exercised when using Fenivir cream or tinted cream?

  • Fenivir cream or tinted cream should not be used on mucous membranes (e.g. in the mouth or genital area) or in the eye.Patients with a weakened immune system should only use Fenivir cream or tinted cream as prescribed by a doctor.If you are not sure what is causing the blister, infection or injured area, then consult your doctor .Fenivir cream and tinted cream have not been tested for use in children under 12 years of age and should therefore not be used in children under 12 years of age.

Can Fenivir cream or tinted cream be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, Fenivir cream or tinted cream must not be used unless prescribed by a doctor. As a precaution, you should avoid taking medicines during pregnancy and breastfeeding, or ask your doctor, pharmacist or druggist for advice.

How do you use Fenivir cream or tinted cream?

It is important to start treatment with Fenivir cream or tinted cream as soon as possible after the first symptoms appear (e.g. burning, itching).Adults, Elderly patients and adolescents from the age of 12: Apply Fenivir cream or tinted cream to the affected areas of the lips and face with a clean finger during the day (after getting up until going to bed) about every 2 hours. Fenivir Cream or Tinted Cream can be applied with a cotton swab. Wash your hands before and after applying the cream.

The treatment period is 4 days.

If the disease worsens or the cold sore does not heal after 4 days, the doctor should be consulted.

Children: Fenivir Cream or Tinted Cream should not be used in children under the age of 12, as the preparations have not been tested for use in children under the age of 12.

Hint How to use and duration of treatment: It has been shown that starting treatment with Fenivir cream or tinted cream even after the blisters have formed accelerates their healing, reduces pain and shortens viral shedding. Adhere to the treatment period of 4 days even if you have already improved beforehandfeel it and do not stop treatment if you do not see an improvement immediately. Insufficient duration of use or stopping treatment too early can result in the disease flaring up again. If you forget to apply the cream at the scheduled time, do so as soon as possible. The following applications should be done every 2 hours. If you apply a large amount of the cream to the skin at once, no harmful effects are to be expected apart from slight skin irritation. If you have accidentally swallowed Fenivir cream or tinted cream, no harmful effects are to be expected apart from irritation of the oral mucosa. In both cases, no special treatments are necessary. If you still have concerns, please contact your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

Observe the dosage specified in the package leaflet or as prescribed by the doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What side effects can Fenivir cream or tinted cream have?

The following side effects may occur when using Fenivir cream or tinted cream: Fenivir cream or tinted cream may cause reactions at the administration site in some patients, e.g. temporary burning sensation en, stinging or numbness. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions such as hives, facial swelling and skin rashes can occur: In these cases, the treatment should be discontinued and the doctor consulted immediately.If you notice any side effects that are not described here, you should inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

Keep out of the reach of children in the original packaging . Do not store above 30°C. What does Fenivir cream or tinted cream contain?

1 gram of Fenivir cream contains 10 mg penciclovir, the excipient propylene glycol and other excipients.
