Description - Virucalm cream 2 g
What is Virucalm and when is it used?
Virucalm Creme contains acyclovir as an active ingredient.Acyclovir inhibits the multiplication of the herpes viruses without affecting the normal metabolic processes. The herpes viruses cause blistering on the skin and mucous membrane.Virucalm Creme is used externally for light, localized cold sores on the lips.
When should Virucalm not be used?
Virucalm Cream must not be used if you are known to be hypersensitive to the active ingredients acyclovir, valaciclovir, propylene glycol or any other excipient contained in the cream.
When should you be careful when using Virucalm?
Virucalm Cream should only be used on cold sores on the lips and not on mucous membranes (e.g. in the mouth, on the eyes or in the genital area). Contact of the cream with the eyes should be avoided. Likewise, the indicated dosage should not be increased. If the cold sores do not heal within 10 days at the latest, or if they even get worse, you should consult your doctor.If you have particularly severe or widespread cold sores, you must see your doctor. Severely immunocompromised people should contact their doctor for any infection.Cold sores are contagious. For this reason, hands should be washed before using the cream and after using the cream, care should be taken not to touch any other parts of the body with your fingers, especially the eyes, before they are washed.Virucalm contains propylene glycol (E1520) and cetyl alcohol.Propylene glycol (E1520) can cause skin irritation.Cetyl alcohol can cause local skin irritation (eg contact dermatitis).Tell your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you have

Can Virucalm be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Virucalm should only be used during pregnancy after consulting a doctor.If Virucalm Creme is used during breastfeeding, there is no need to interrupt breastfeeding.
How do you use Virucalm?
The doctor must prescribe Virucalm for the first time in children under 12 years of age.Adults and children over 2 years of age should apply Virucalm Creme 5 times a day at an interval of approx. 4 hours.It is recommended that the cream be applied immediately when the first symptoms such as tingling, itching or burning sensation appear. The treatment can also be started after the cold sores have already formed.Hands should be washed before and after treatment to prevent the infection from spreading.If you forget to apply Virucalm Creme, it should be done as soon as possible and the usual rhythm should be adhered to afterwards.The duration of treatment is usually 4 days. If the healing is not complete after this time, Virucalm Cream can be used for up to 10 days. If the infection has not healed after this time, you must consult your doctor.Adhere to the dosage given in the package insert or prescribed by your doctor. What side effects can Virucalm have?
The following side effects may occur when using Virucalm cream:The skin can often dry out slightly. Immediately after applying the cream, a slight burning sensation or a slight reddening may occur without the need to interrupt the treatment.Virucalm Cream can occasionally cause reddening, itching or flaking of the skin. However, this does not affect the effectiveness of the cream. A sudden allergic reaction can rarely occur, very rarely with swelling of the face, including the eyelids, tongue and larynx. In this case, the treatment should be stopped immediately and the doctor should be notified.If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist. This also applies in particular to side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.
