Description - Dexagenta-POS Gtt Opht Fl 5ml
What is Dexagenta-POS and when is it used?
Dexagenta-POS contains dexamethasone dihydrogen phosphate disodium, an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid, and gentamicin sulfate, an antibiotic, as active ingredients. Dexagenta-POS is used for the treatment of inflammation of the eye with simultaneous bacterial eye infection.Prescriptened by your doctor.
What precautions should be taken?
The antibiotic in Dexagenta-POS is not effective against all infections of the eye. The use of an incorrectly chosen or improperly dosed antibiotic can cause complications. Do not use this medicine for the treatment of other conditions or by anyone else.
When should Dexagenta-POS not be taken / used?
Dexagenta-POS must not be used in the case of injuries or ulcers of the cornea, especially if they are or may be caused by viral diseases, ocular tuberculosis, fungal infections of the eye, glaucoma, known or suspected hypersensitivity to an ingredient of Dexagenta-POS.
When should you be careful when using Dexagenta-POS?
If the eye complaints treated with Dexagenta-POS do not improve or if they worsen after 2?3 days or if new symptoms occur, you should consult your doctor immediately.Benzalkonium chloride can be absorbed into soft contact lenses and can discolour the contact lenses. You must remove the contact lenses before using this medicine and only put them back in after 15 minutes.Benzalkonium chloride can also cause eye irritation, especially if you have dry eyes or diseases of the cornea (clear layer on the front of the eye). Contact your doctor or health care professional if you get unusual sensation, burning, or pain in your eye after using this medicine.Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you suffer from other illnesses (especially diabetes), have allergies, take other medicines (including those you have bought yourself) or use them on your eyes. Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Dexagenta-POS.Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you develop swelling and weight gain on your trunk or face, as these are usually the first signs of what is known as Cushing's syndrome. After a long-term or high-dose treatment with Dexagenta-POS is discontinued, suppression of the adrenal function can occur. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you stop the treatment on your own. These risks should be considered especially in children and patients treated with a drug containing ritonavir or cobicistat. If you have blurred vision or other visual disturbances, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Can Dexagenta-POS be taken / used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Do not use Dexagenta-POS in the first trimester of pregnancy, afterwards and during breastfeeding only with the express permission of your doctor.
How do you use Dexagenta POS?
The frequency of use and, above all, the time interval between applications can be very different depending on the disease. Continue the treatment as instructed by your doctor even if you no longer feel any symptoms. Ending it too early or not using it properly can cause the disease to flare up again. As a rule, the duration of use should not exceed 12 days. The use and safety of Dexagenta-POS in children and adolescents has not yet been tested.Do not change the prescribed dosage on your own. If you think that the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
What side effects can Dexagenta-POS have?Local side effects on the eyeVery rare (affects less than 1 in 10,000 people)
Very rarely there is the possibility of allergic reactions and a slight temporary stinging of the eyes. Hypersensitivity reactions (contact allergic reaction), which may be accompanied by itching, swelling of the eyelid or eyelid eczema (blistering, oozing), have been observed very rarely. With prolonged treatment, corticoids such as dexamethasone dihydrogen phosphate can cause an increase in intraocular pressure, which regresses when the drug is discontinued. In addition, there is a risk of permanent lens opacities, especially in children. In addition, the following can occur: Herpes simplex keratitis, perforation of the cornea with existing corneal inflammation, fungal infection of the eye, e.g. from Candida albicans, aggravation of bacterial corneal infections, drooping of the upper eyelid, dilation of the pupil. Wound healing disorders can occur after injuries to the cornea.
