Oculac is used as a tear substitute. The preparation is suitable for moistening the eyes. What is Oculac and when is it used?

Oculac is used as a tear substitute. The preparation is suitable for moistening the eyes. On the recommendation of the pharmacist or on the doctor's prescription, Oculac is also used to treat "dry eyes" of various causes. Oculac is an aqueous solution; it contains Povidonum K25 and is comparable to natural tear fluid. After instillation, Oculac quickly spreads over the eye and forms a protective film.

When not to use Oculac?

Oculac should not be used if you have a known or suspected hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.

When is caution needed when using Oculac?

If dry eye irritation persists or worsens, you should discontinue treatment and contact your doctor or pharmacist visit a doctor. If you need to use Oculac at the same time as other eye medicines, you should discuss this with your doctor, pharmacist or druggist to establish an appropriate schedule for using the medicine. If other drugs applied locally to the eye are used at the same time, a time interval of 5-10 minutes should be observed between applications. Oculac should always be instilled last. If you experience blurred vision immediately after using Oculac, you should refrain from driving or using machines until vision clears.

Note for contact lens wearers

Oculac, multidose eye drops, contains benzalkonium chloride (0.0015 mg per drop). Benzalkonium chloride can be absorbed by soft contact lenses and may discolour the contact lenses. You must remove your contact lenses before using this medicine and wait 15 minutes before you put them back in. Benzalkonium chloride can also cause eye irritation, particularly if you have dry eyes or diseases of the cornea (transparent layer at the front of the eye) that you are treating for a long time or at higher doses. Contact your doctor if you get an unusual feeling, burning or pain in your eye after using this medicine. Itell your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you

Can Oculac be taken/used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding only after consultation with your doctor, pharmacist or druggist, pharmacist or druggist.

How do you use Oculac?Adults

If needed, 1 drop of Oculac in the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s). give /n. On the recommendation of the pharmacist or on the doctor?s prescription, 1 drop is usually used 4 times a day to treat ?dry eyes? of various causes. The use and safety of Oculac in children and adolescents has not been established. Avoid direct contact between the dropper tip of the vial and the eye. It is recommended to press your finger on the inner corner of the eye for 1-2 minutes after application. This prevents the eye drops from draining through the tear duct. Stick to the dosage given in the package leaflet or recommended by your doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What side effects can Oculac have?

The following side effects can occur when using Oculac:

Common (affects 1 to 10 users in 100)

Temporary slight burning sensation or a feeling of stickiness immediately after the application.

Very rare (affects less than 1 user in 10,000)

Irritancy or hypersensitivity reactions to ingredients in Oculac. Blurred vision is possible for a short time after application. Eye pain, itching and/or discomfort in the eyes and reddened eyes also occurred. If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist. This also applies in particular to side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.

What else needs to be considered?

The medicinal product may only be used up to the date marked «EXP» on the packaging. Remove the safety ring of the screw cap after opening for the first time. To maintain the sterility of the eye drops, do not touch the dropper tip with your hands or eyes. Also, the dropper tip should not come in contact with the eye as this could cause an eye injury. Close the dropper bottle tightly immediately after use.

Use by after opening

Once the bottle has been opened, do not use the contents longer than 30 days. Bring any remaining residue to your disposal point (doctor, pharmacy or drugstore) for professional disposal.

What is in Oculac?

1ml of sterile, buffered isotonic Oculac, eye drops, contains:

Active ingredients

50 mg Povidone K25.

Excipients

Benzalkonium chloride, boric acid, sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium chlorides, sodium lactate, sodium hydroxide (for pH adjustment) and water for injections.
