What is Mg5-Granoral and when is it used?
Mg5-Granoral granules for the preparation of a solution for oral administration provide the body with sufficient amounts of magnesium in an easily absorbable form - bound to aspartic acid. Magnesium is a vital element that is necessary for many metabolic processes in the human body. It is assumed that adults need at least 300-400 mg of magnesium per day (1 sachet of Mg5-Granoral contains 12 mmol of magnesium, corresponding to 292 mg of magnesium as magnesium aspartate dihydrate).Mg5-Granoral is used:
- to cover increased requirements (e.g. growth, high-performance sports, pregnancy, breastfeeding),with a low-magnesium diet,with Wa thinking spasms.
On medical prescription or on the advice of the pharmacist, Mg5-Granoral can also be used for muscle twitching, muscle activity disorders or muscular cramps.Mg5-Granoral is prescribed by the doctor for premature contractions during pregnancy, imminent abortion, cardiac activity disorders, persistent diarrhea and as additional therapy with diuretic drugs.
What should be considered?
This medicinal product contains 2.8 g of usable carbohydrates per single dose.
When should Mg5-Granoral not be taken?
Mg5-Granoral should not be used in the following cases:
- in the case of kidney dysfunction,in the case of disturbances in the conduction of impulses in the heart,in the case of a predisposition to kidney stone formation (magnesium-calcium -Amonium phosphate stones),in the case of severe dehydration of the body (exsiccosis),in the event of hypersensitivity to one of the components,in the case of known sorbitol intolerance (fructose intolerance).
When is caution required when taking Mg5-Granoral?
Patients suffering from moderate renal insufficiency may only take Mg5-Granoral after consulting a doctor .
If cramps last longer than 10 days, consult a doctor.
If you suffer from liver or kidney disease, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice, as large amounts of benzyl alcohol can build up in your body and cause side effects (so-called "metabolic acidosis").
This medicine contains 2806.2 mg of sorbitol per sachet. Sorbitol is a source of fructose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, or if you have been diagnosed with hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI) - a rare hereditary condition in which a person is unable to break down fructose - talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.This medicine contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per sachet, i.e. it is essentially 'sodium-free'.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist or druggist if you
- suffer from other diseases,have allergies,take other medicines (including those you bought yourself!), such as medicines containing iron, fluorine, vitamin D or tetracycline antibiotics.

How do you use Mg5-Granoral?
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the following dosage is recommended for Mg5-Granoral:
Adults and young peopleAdults over 12 years: 1 sachet of Mg5-Granoral 12 mmol daily. Mix the contents of the sachet in a glass of water and drink.
The active ingredient content does not allow the use of Mg5-Granoral 12 mmol in children under the age of 12.
Observe the dosage given in the package insert or prescribed by the doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
What side effects can Mg5-Granoral have?
The following side effects can occur when taking Mg5-Granoral: at high doses, occasionally (1 in 1000 to 1 in 100) soft stools can occur, but these do not are thoughtful. If diarrhea occurs, reduce the daily dose or discontinue the preparation unless it was prescribed by the doctor.If you notice any side effects that are not described here, you should inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist. This also applies in particular to side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.
